I'm just sayin.

I'm definitely not saying that I need more hamsters. I mean, the last time I complained about not having enough hamsters, I got in over FORTY hamsters in the span of two weeks. And I do not want that to happen again. No, no, no.

However, when friends were over on Saturday, they kept asking... "where are all the hamsters?" I have nine, sort of... except that two are mice and they live together, and four are a family and live together. So, in terms of cages, I have only five. And only four are hamsters. So, do you see how I am weirded out? As my friend John said, I am experiencing "a dearth of hamsters."

So, hamster-gods, I'm not asking for 40 more. Really and truly. But, if you were to send say ten or so along, that would be ok. Actually, I have five young syrians scheduled to come in early-mid March, and I think it will be really easy to find them loving homes. So all I am saying is that if I got in five or ten others, that would be ok. A few at a time. Maybe even 20. But not until March, ok? A little vacation is ok :)

I hope that means that there are many hamsters in loving, caring homes...before you know it, you will have some more hammys coming your way.

In the meantime if you could please say a prayer for Katie the hamster, she is old, and in the process of passing...it is really sad...

Beatrix is doing well though. Thank goodness!

Ronni, Thanks so much for your support... I'm sending hugs, kisses, and hamster treats to Katie. It's so hard when you can tell they are on their way out. But at least she lived a long, VERY happy life in a loving home!

I'm really proud of all the hamsters I've found homes for... it just seems weird that I'm not inundated right now. But, now that I've opened my big mouth, I'll somehow get eight hundred hamsters tomorrow :) Silly Jessica...

Jess, I have eight hundred hamsters for you, today. As in, now. :)

After the passing of Turtle, the turtle, I thought about adopting a cute little pocket pet (hamster, mouse, rat), but have since suppressed that idea. But I'll come calling if the urge ever reasserts itself...

Have a good vacation Jessica, thank you for your kind words, Katie did pass today, friday, think is is 2/23, or earlier tonight, now it is 1am on Saturday morning. I am grateful she is not in the state she was in the past couple of days...I will miss her as I still miss her sisters, Cinny and Megie. Beatrix is up to no good, lol, she is chewing on her water bottle and the cage, she has been being shy and hiding a bit, I cleaned her cage, and I think this is her telling me I am NOT happy with this nice smelling CLEAN cage Mom, DON'T do it AGAIN! Let us know if you get 700 or 800 hamsters when you get back from vacation. All the Best ....Ronni and Beatrix

Hi Jessica, it is Rachel from LifeLongTails in western NY, www.lifelongtails.org
I was just thinking myself how there have been many more adoptions lately than surrenders, and that we don't have as many adoptable pets as we normally do. I was thinking this is a good thing. I am hoping owners are taking better care of their pets and keeping the lifelong commitment and many people are turning to adoption when they'd like a new family member, and this is a very good thing. But I'd hate to think that many people are still looking to "get rid" of their pets and instead of taking them to a nice rescue they are doing something else ..something cruel... or taking them to a "kill" shelter. I hope that is not the case. ALl we can do is be there when the time comes, when someone calls or e-mails needing somewhere to take their pet for whatever reason. And then we love them and get to know them, and find that perfect home for them. Just wait, you'll log onto the computer and there will be 20 e-mails all about surrendering, or the phone will be ringing off the hook, or you'll come home from work or running errands and there are 12 to 15 messages all asking for help, I cannot keep my pet anymore....
It'll happen. Just lavish all the extra time you have now with less hammies to the hammies that are still there, they'll love it :)
